Scandinavian garage rock legends return with a brand-new album
Thirty years after their first release, Stockholm's legendary The Sewergrooves return with The Acoin Session, a brand-new studio album to be released this Fall through Chaputa! Records and Ghost Highway Recordings.
Born from Stockholm's fertile early-'90s underground scene, The Sewergrooves quickly established themselves as one of Scandinavia's most respected garage rock acts. Combining Detroit-style muscle, soul-infused grooves and an instinctive understanding of what makes a great rock'n'roll song, they built a reputation that extended far beyond Sweden's borders. Through a steady stream of singles, EPs and albums—including fan favourites such as Songs From The Sewer and Trouble Station—the band carved out a place of their own in European rock'n'roll history.
Unlike many of their contemporaries, The Sewergrooves never relied on retro posturing or fashionable trends. Their records have always been driven by songs, attitude and a deep-rooted love of the raw, untamed spirit that gave birth to rock'n'roll in the first place.
The Acoin Session showcases the band at the absolute height of their powers. Recorded at their own studio and produced by the band themselves, the album seamlessly fuses the grit of Detroit's MC5, the explosive energy of Sydney's Radio Birdman, and the outsider soul of Portland legends Dead Moon and Wipers, with the melodic punch of Thin Lizzy, Roky Erickson and early Urge Overkill.
The result is a masterclass in pure, unadulterated rock'n'roll—completely stripped of pretence, yet loaded with massive hooks, soulful swagger and raw power. Every track sounds like the work of a band that has spent decades refining its craft without losing an ounce of urgency or conviction.
